I was able to capture a couple of shots of some small green parakeets that live behind my m-i-l's house yesterday afternoon. Here in Brazil they are called piriquitos or periquitos. Parakeets are not all that uncommon in my hometown, Austin, Texas. There are several that, although they are not native to the area, somehow ended up there and never left. That's actually the story with the majority of Austin residents, these days. ;)
Parakeets are such neat creatures: cute & curmudgeon-y. I really enjoy hearing their chatter & watching what could be playful bickering with each other. Maybe it was the nice weather, but they made quite a commotion for several hours until dusk. This one let me get pretty close, and even posed for me. Judging by his stance, i don't think they restrict their playfulness to their own species. :) Cute little thing!
Just the same, i'm going to nix the nickname from my husband, who so lovingly calls me "Periquita" when he feels i'm being talkative. Either that, or he's going to get a new one: porco espinho (porcupine).

A real cutie, isn't it?
Thanks for your comment! Have missed you around these parts, lately. :)
Periquitos, is the way to say it. They are very playful indeed, very curious too. I love their sound is cheerful!
Alexandra, yes they are. :)
It's interesting how the dialect changes from region to region, here in Brazil. Some regions spell & pronounce it as "periquitos, and others as "piriquitos. This is not unlike English, in that some people say toe-MAY-toe and others say toe-MAH-toe. ;)
See this link for more information. :)

Yes,Parakeets are jolly creatures! There is a few species of them in Sri Lanka,ad I've o observed two around Kurunegala where I reside.I've only managed to photograph one species yet. Yours is a pretty good photo!
Thanks, Amila, you bird pic pro! :)
I just saw the Rose-ringed Parakeet pics on your site - it is beautiful, and unlike any i've seen here. That whole set is stunning.
